Change

Wow, can't believe how long it's been since I've written and so much has happened. So, we moved once again and are no longer, as of this week, in the house with the pink carpets, that I have yet to post pictures of. We are back on the mainland.

Ken, after much prayer, deliberation and soul searching decided to resign from the RCMP, as he realized it just wasn't the job for him. So we are in limbo once again. Back at the in-laws once again (lucky them :) )! Where we will end up, I do not know. Ken is looking for work and wherever he finds something is where we will end up living. Life sure is like a "box of choclates.."(thank you Forest Gump) you just never know what is going to happen next.

Settling In

So, starting to settle in. Of course the boxes have all been banished downstairs so I don't have to look at them!! I find it sure is a lot slower getting things done with two kids around. I remember when Ken and I moved to Burnaby after we first got married and how quickly we got set up. It sure isn't moving that fast at all this time. It doesn't help i guess that I'm extremely tired all the time. Micah doesn't seem to be moving towards sleeping through the night anytime soon. And I know I could probably work on him, but i'm to tired to doing anything about it right now.

I have to say it is really strange not having a regular work week. Ken works four days on and then has four off. Sometimes I have to think really hard to figure out what day of the week it is. Halfway through the day on Friday, I suddenly realized that it was friday, but because it was Ken's second day of work, it didn't feel like a friday at all.

So we've been church shopping. We have visited three churches so far. All quite a bit smaller than what I'm used to. I really liked the one we went to today. They seemed to have a pretty good kids program. You know your a parent when the most important feature is a good kids program! :) However, I really want to be in the place God has for us, wherever that may be--big or small, so it may not be the church i want to go to..i know this may sound a bit contradictory, but I have found often what i want is not what God wants, which doesn't always make me happy, but is usually the best for all of us. Take for instance this house, I really wanted the other house we looked at, it was picture perfect, but really felt led to agree with Ken to get this house even though i really didn't like it that much. And although I could really do without the pink carpets, i am at peace being here and I feel this is the right place, even though it doesn't really make sense to me. I mean why does God care. But then again, I guess, where you live has a big impact on the church you go to and the people you meet! Maybe next time God could throw in some hardwood floors and a fireplace though!!! :)

Oh, I've been wanting to share a few Joshua isisms before I end this post. So here are some things he says that I find cute. I always love it when other people share the things their kids say.

"yes me do" he always says when I ask him if he wants something

"I'm just joking you"

The other day Ken took Joshua to the post office with him and while they were waiting in line, Joshua stuck his face into Ken's butt and said "Daddy your bum stinks." I think Ken was a little mortified by that. Of course they always talk really loudly too, so everyone can hear!

A couple of times when he doesn't like something on a cartoon he's watching, he has gone and hid in the Kitchen under the table. He'll also often cover his eyes with his fingers and peak through them.

He also sings along with the theme song for Timothy goes to school (i think that's what it is called). Only every other word though and his head bobs along to the music. It's really cute. One time Joshua and his cousin Noah were watching Tractor Tom and they were both singing and boping their heads at the same time; it was super cute.

Oh, i'll end with this one! His cousin Noah always used to call Joshua "that boy" even though he saw him almost every day. It was really funny! He would say "boy" can you.... or "Mom, that boy..."! anyway he has finally learned to say Joshua's name, but i kind of miss hearing "that boy."

Update

just to let you know, if you read the previous post, that Micah is all of a sudden doing much better going to sleep. Yay! I haven't done anything different, so I'll just attribute it to prayer. If someone out there has prayed---thank you so much!!

The sleep battle continues

Well, Micah was doing really well in the day time sleep department, until the last few days. He seems to go through cycles. He will go to sleep really easily for awhile and then something happens and for some strange reason he has a really hard time getting to sleep and staying asleep and it is all accompained with a lot of crying. I have definetly been engaging in what the babywhisperer calls "accidental parenting" in order to somehow help him on his way to sumberland, since he seems to have, hopefully temporarily, lost the ability to do this himself. (well, at least during the day anyway. At night he's fine. He doesn't cry then. )

I don't know if any of you have seen the commerical for a camera where the parents are taking pictures of this baby contentedly sucking its soother as it drifts of to sleep, but every time I see that commercial I experience a twinge of envy. Ah what i would give to have my baby go to sleep so peacefully. Instead it's more like a war! And it really bothers me! I don't want him to cry, partly b/c it's hard on me, but mostly b/c i want it to be a nice peaceful experience for him, but it's not.

On a sidenote tonight while I was putting Micah down, Joshua got into the fridge and ate four of those little yogurts. Which is probably why he just now fell asleep at 8, when he is usually asleep at 7. Those things are just packed with sugar. He had to have ingested about 50 grams!

we moved...finally!

So, we are here, finally! Once again I have a home. Not exactly estatic about the house (if you could see the carpets you would understand), but it is nice to be all together again. Darn, I wanted to post some pictures of the lovely bright rose coloured carpet (so you could all feel sorry for me :) ), but once again the pictures aren't on this computer. One of these days i'll get them up.

So, today in an attempt to make the place more likeable i went on a plant shopping spree, home depot was having a sale (oh how i love sales) and came away with one gigantic plant, which I love, and three smaller ones. I'm very excited about my purchase. And it is helping me like this place a little more.

I shouldn't complain about it to much. I am thankful to have somewhere to live and it is a whole house.

Oh, I forgot to mention the piece de resistance...are you ready for it...my blinds are...get this..gold coloured!!! have you ever seen gold coloured blinds?? I don't think i ever have. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me at first, but no they weren't.

So, if anyone has any great decorating ideas for minimizing coloured carpet, i'm all ears.

The never ending search...

It seems never ending at any rate. So, it's almost a month since Ken graduated and I'm still at my in-laws and Ken is over on the Island. We have yet to find anywhere to live. We had tried to buy a townhouse, but it all fell through, which was good, as neither of us where completly comfortable with it and it just all felt way to rushed. So after spending eight days over on the Island in a hotel room with two small children we made our way back to the mainland for Christmas still homeless.

We since decided to rent and wait on the buying, but we seem to be having just as much trouble. It doesn't help that Ken is working 12 hour shifts, so his time is really limited. We found one place that was beautiful, but a little on the small size that didn't happen b/c the woman renting it didn't seem to keen on kids. Then the other house Ken looked at was large and had the most "beautiful" rose coloured carpets (yes, i'm being sarcastic). But since there aren't many options out there, unless we want to pay a lot of money, it looks like it could very well be the pink palace, as i call it. I would post some pictures, but i'm on the wrong computer. But at this point in time nothing is certain, since we have yet to hear from the property managment company wether or not we can take it. So, it's starting to look like I could be here until Febuary...:(

i can't tell you how tired i am of waiting. Ihad pictured myself setting up my new home and getting to know my new neighbourhood, having family time once again, by now, but no i'm still here, still waiting, still homeless. At least Micah seems to be starting to sleep a little better. He has a good morning nap and is going to sleep by himself without much crying. And today for the first time his afternoon nap was longer than 45 minutes. Oh and he laughed for the first time the other day. It was a full body laugh and lasted a few minutes. It was so cute. I actually had tears in my eyes. He is the smiliest (is that a word) happiest baby, when he's not crying at the top of his lungs b/c he's overtired and can't get to sleep.

Isn't he the cutest!! Of course, i think so, i'm his mom!! But, oh how i love his smiles and his baby talk. And he smiles like this all the time. So precious!!

In case you were wondering, he is now four months old as of Dec 28. I know, he looks a lot older. He is a big baby. The 3-6 month clothes are starting to get tight on him already.

He's Done!!

He finished, my husband, that is! He is now offically a member of the RCMP police force. We were in Regina over the weekend to see his graduation, which is quite a show, let me tell you. It made for a really busy weekend. They had a special multifaith church service, a info session for families about what to expect, graduation, drill show, passout, ceremony to recieve their badges and then a formal banquet in the evening. Needless to say by the time we arrived back on tuesday I was exhausted. Micah did not do very well and cried an awful lot and didn't sleep very much, another reason for my exhaustion by the end of it all. He seems to be happiest at home, well what he knows as home, my in-laws. When we got home, he went from crying and fussing to cooing and smiling.
So the next step is the big move..fun, fun... At least the RCMP pays for movers to come and pack and move our stuff. Now if we can only find a place to live:)
