change

I have a bit of a hate/love affair with change. I love the idea of it, until it actually happens and then I hate it. I remember when I was 11 and my parents told us we would be moving to Canada for a couple of years, which obviously turned out to be more than a couple of years. At first I was so excited, envisioning all the wonderful new things in store for me in Canada. Then the day approached and excitment turned to tears at the thought of having to leave what I knew and loved behind.

Well, once again I am being faced with change. We just found out that Ken got accepted into the RCMP training program. This means that in about six weeks he will be gone for six months to Regina, Saskatchewan. This also means that I will be moving in with my in-laws for that six months, as although they do give him some money while he's there, it's not enough to cover all our expenses. It also means that he may miss the birth of our second child, although I'm going to be praying really hard that I go into labour on a weekend he is out visiting. I have also realized how much I'm going to miss the rhythmn of my life out here. Even though for the first couple of years, I did not want to be here, I have become completly contented with my life here. I'm am also a little unsure as to what it will be like living with my in-laws (my parents, unfortunately, don't have enough room for us all)! I will very much miss having my own place. But am very grateful for my in-laws generous offer. So, now that the reality of change has come, I am no longer so excited about it and yes a little sad to leave everything I have come to know behind. Yet, I'm sure once I get more used to the idea, I will get excited once again for what God will do with our little family this year.

It's going to be so nice to have you in my neck of the woods again. I'll have to take full advantage and have you over often!
6 months will go by so quickly, once you get settled and accustomed to "the new normal". I know how you feel about change, though - I'm not so good at adjusting, especially when it involves losing personal space!

Change is crazy - you're so brave to be willing to do it almost by yourself for 6 months. I admire your courage.

We'd love to have you come visit us - maybe we can go to a park together, or go out in an evening while the kids are sleeping ( will your in-laws be OK with that?) since you'll be so close. Oh - I just read Korinne's comment - maybe all of us can get together?!!
